The City of Salina celebrates artistic expression and encourages public art to celebrate our community’s vibrant cultural diversity. Salina Arts & Humanities manages the City of Salina’s art collection, containing hundreds of pieces of artwork acquired through commissions, gifts, and purchases. This includes paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, and community pieces.
The Community Art and Design Advisory Committee (CAD) is a standing committee made up of volunteers appointed by the City Commission to advise the City’s Community Art and Design Program. CAD is guided by the Community Art & Design Policy, which was adopted to facilitate the inclusion of artists and art and design projects in selected projects. The processes follow nationally developed guidelines for selecting artists and artwork. The policy strengthens the City’s commitment to enhancing and reinforcing the community’s goals, visions, and values through the provision of art. CAD oversees major art projects, partnership installations, and art in public places.
Some of the programs within the City of Salina’s art collection are an interdepartmental loan program, external loan program, major art projects, art in public places, and additionally serving as a resource on private projects, which enhance Salina.
